S.C. Technology and Aviation Center — More Than Meets the Eye

sctacWith a population of just under one million people, Greenville, SC is considered a small city, but it stands among giants when it comes to business and livability. Did you know that Forbes ranks Greenville the 23rd most affordable place for business, and Conde Nast Traveler ranks it the #1 Friendliest City in the U.S?

By all accounts, Greenville is a fantastic place to live, work and play, and many of the world’s largest brand name companies have already discovered it.

Just look at Lockheed Martin3M, and Michelin. All three of these Fortune Global 500 firms are located at the S.C. Technology and Aviation Center (SCTAC), a business park focused on the unique needs of automotive, aerospace and advanced manufacturing industries.  SCTAC is one of Greenville County’s finest assets when the Greenville Area Development Corporation is working to attract new organizations to our market.

What sets SCTAC apart is that sitting at the center of our 2,600-acre park is South Carolina’s largest general aviation airport. With the ability to serve any size and type of aircraft – with the exception of commercial passenger airlines – Donaldson Field is a tremendous asset to the companies located at SCTAC and the surrounding region.

Lockheed Martin’s World-Class F-16 Center of Excellence has direct access to the runway from its F-16 production and maintenance facilities here. Other companies use it as a convenient way to transport air cargo or for private jet passenger transport.

Ironically, SCTAC’s long history with aviation is one of the very reasons it is becoming a popular place for automotive companies to do business. As explained in this recent Gannett article, recognizing an economic development opportunity, the leadership at SCTAC transformed a mile-long, idle airplane runway into a state-of-the-art automotive test track to serve South Carolina’s fast growing automotive industry. Today, automotive OEMs and suppliers from across the Southeast come to SCTAC to put their newest technologies and components to the test at the International Transportation Innovation Center to ensure they are safe, reliable and ready for public roads.

There’s so much more than meets the eye at SCTAC. Click here to see for yourself!
