The International Center of the Upstate
The International Center of the Upstate is an organization focused on making international residents feel at home in Greenville and the greater Upstate area. There are several clubs offering social events and educational opportunities, catering to specific nationalities and cultures. In addition, the ICU ambassador program has been created to aid companies in bringing new employees here from abroad. A bilingual volunteer is provided by the Center to welcome the family and assist them in getting settled. The service is available for French, German and Spanish speaking families. The ICU is piloting a new workshop for business people called “Business Savvy for Global Professionals.” Also, ICU will be hosting a foreign film showing on Thursday evenings at 7pm at the Greenville City Hall. Call the center for details on any of its available services and programs.

The ICU offers many services to internationals designed to integrate cultures and help them get involved in the community.

  • Language classes are offered in French, German, Italian, Spanish, Chinese, and English as a second language.

  • Personal assistance is provided to newcomers through the Ambassadors Program. Help is offered in all aspects of establishing a life in Greenville, from school registration, choosing a doctor, to finding recreational activities for children.

  • The Women’s Club has monthly meetings with topics ranging from health, to children, to politics. They also conduct day trips around Greenville and organize benefit events.

  • The ICU provides country contacts in the Greenville area for over 20 different countries around the globe.

  • Other activities at the ICU include films, lectures, seminars, children’s activities, and publication of a monthly newsletter.
