Greenville has some of the best healthcare services and facilities in the state, if not the Southeast. Two major hospitals – Greenville Health System (GHS) and Bon Secours St. Francis Health System – offer high-level medical care, with services such as a level-one trauma center and cancer centers. Greenville Health System
Greenville Health Systems is a not-for-profit, patient-centered, teaching and research institution. It is one of the largest health systems in the Southeast and the Upstate's only academic medical center. GHS provides patients with a sophisticated network of expertise and technologies through its tertiary medical center, research and education facilities, community hospitals, wellness centers, physician practices, and numerous specialty facilities in upstate South Carolina. GHS has 902 research studies including 384 clinical trials that are investigating new therapies, medications, medical devices, vaccines, and new ways of using existing treatments. Areas of study include oncology, pediatric oncology, women’s health, cardiology, and vascular disease. GHS also participates in applied basic science to support the development of new medical devices and drug therapies in oncology, reproductive endocrinology, and vascular surgery.
Bon Secours St. Francis Health System
Bon Secours St. Francis Health System is a faith-based, non-profit, private health system that is Good Help to Those in Need in Upstate South Carolina. With two major hospitals, dozens of outpatient locations and hundreds of physicians from all specialties, Bon Secours St. Francis offers advanced clinical care with personal, compassionate care unmatched in the area.
Bon Secours St. Francis also recently opened the newest Cancer Center in the Southeast, the St. Francis Cancer Center. Shriner’s Children’s Hospital
Shriner’s Children’s Hospital provides free care to patients under 18 experiencing orthopedic problems. In addition to therapy, the county school system provides classes for its patients.
Pelham Medical Center
Located at the intersection of Westmoreland Road and Highway 14 in Greer, SC, Pelham Medical Center (PMC) is Greer’s only certified Primary Stroke Center. Pelham Medical Center is part of Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System. PMC provides a wide range of medical care, including surgery, intensive care, emergency room services, world-class cancer treatment and primary care. PMC is a 48-bed facility, including an intensive care unit, with a full array of outpatient and diagnostic services, operating suites and an emergency department staffed 24/7 by expert clinicians. Gibbs Cancer Center & Research Institute at Pelham
Gibbs Cancer Center & Research Institute at Pelham, a division of Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System, is located in Greer and opened in 2013. Radiation and medical oncology services are offered in one convenient location, providing the Upstate of South Carolina easy access to the highest quality cancer care.
Located across from Pelham Medical Center on Highway 14 in Greer, Gibbs at Pelham features a soothing space filled with natural sunlight, gardens, flowing water and music. Patients have access to outstanding patient-centered care, treatment review, clinical research trials and advanced technology.
Services at this Location
In November 2015, Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System announced the investment of $65 million into a new cancer center in Greer. The Spartanburg Regional Foundation is leading a capital campaign to raise money for the state-of-the-art cancer center. Lead donors include the Milliken family, Marsha and Jimmy Gibbs, Lindsay Webster and the Montgomery family.
Construction of the 198,000 square-foot, seven-story facility is scheduled to to be completed mid-2018.
With cancer treatment and support services under one roof, the new facility will house research, education and a healing environment for patients. Numerous physicians will collaborate to incorporate technology across the fields of research and treatment to ensure that every patient receives the best personalized cancer care possible.
