JTEKT North America Expanding Greenville Operations

GREENVILLE, SC – November 9, 2015 – The Greenville Area Development Corporation (GADC), the County-chartered organization tasked with advancing the area’s economic growth, announced today that JTEKT North America, a leader in automotive and industrial product solutions, is expanding its operations in Greenville County. The company will be investing $1.75 million to establish an operational headquarters at CU-ICAR, creating 27 new jobs in Greenville, S.C.

“New business ventures and existing industries are important pieces of the Greenville economic engine,” said Greenville Mayor, Knox White. “Due to our manufacturing excellence, skilled workforce, and unmatched quality of life, the city is home to some of the most technically advanced companies in the world, and the announcement of JTEKT North America increasing their current footprint in the city further demonstrates Greenville’s ability to support world class research development and executive leadership positions. Support of projects like the Clemson University ICAR campus, which serves as a recruiting tool for attracting the best and brightest, is part of the City’s long-term vision, and we are very pleased to see those investments pay off as JTEKT North America expands within the ICAR campus.”

Expanding its Greenville County operations, JTEKT has decided to locate its North American operational headquarters alongside its Koyo bearing product technical center at CU-ICAR, an advanced-technology research campus for the automotive industry. Occupying facilities at both 1 and 7 Research Drive in Greenville, S.C., the expansion is expected to be fully operational in the first quarter of 2016. JTEKT North America employs more than 7,000 associates at 14 manufacturing facilities plus additional technical and sales centers in North America.

“To see a company like JTEKT grow beyond their initial investment in the county lets us know that we are doing things right here in Greenville,” said Greenville County Council Chairman Dr. Bob Taylor. “Our business climate, infrastructure, and talented workforce all help make this a globally-recognized destination for the automotive industry.”

“The combination of a strong automotive community and the wealth of well-educated, STEM-friendly personnel we have established in Greenville County are what made this expansion possible,” said GADC Chairman Dick Wilkerson. “We look forward to continuing our partnership with JTEKT and anticipate that their new headquarters will flourish.”
