BMW Expands Plant in Greer

THE STATE

Work has begun on BMW’s 1.2 million-square-foot body shop at the Greer campus, which will double the size of the original facility when the project is completed. An investment of $1 billion, the expansion will add 800 new jobs to the plant’s existing workforce of 8,000. With the help of technology and robotics, the body shop will boost BMW’s production to 450,000 vehicles a year, which is a 49,096 increase from 2015.

“This new body shop will allow us to build all of our framed bodies in this one facility, including the new BMW X7,” Wilson said.

The expansion of the Greer plant will provide numerous opportunities for new development and growth in Greenville County.
